Maximum Security for Document Files

DocuWare stores all types of documents in a central location by placing the document’s index criteria in a database and saving the actual documents through the file system to a hard disk or optical disks. The add-on module DOCUMENT-SERVER increases document security by acting as an interface between the DocuWare client and the file system of the network server, taking over the storage and retrieval of documents. With DOCUMENT-SERVER, the user no longer needs direct access to the file system. This means that the security for stored documents is maximized, administration needs reduced, and remote accesss by DocuWare client via the Internet is simplified and even faster than ever before.

Application

DOCUMENT-SERVER was designed for all network installations with multiple DocuWare workstations or clients. Using the access rights administration in DocuWare, a system administrator can fine tune the access rights for each user, on the file cabinet level, and even on the document level. This is done by using the entries in the database fields of the index connected to a document. Since DocuWare users who operate through DOCUMENT-SERVER no longer have direct access to the document file system structure, this ensures a higher degree of security, protecting stored documents against unwanted access. And, it is no longer necessary to synchronize the access or user rights of the file system with those from a file cabinet.

DocuWare 4 Windows client integrates a client module which takes over the communication with
DOCUMENT-SERVER. Since this communication takes place by HTTP protocol, authorized DocuWare users can access file cabinets managed by DOCUMENT-SERVER through the Internet, for both reading and writing purposes. Access to documents is a huge advantage for users working in a subsidiary, home office or while travelling.

Another option is to combine direct access to the file system via DocuWare together with more secured access through DOCUMENT-SEVER. Selected DocuWare users are then able to have direct access to certain file cabinets, while other file cabinets are set up so they can only be accessed by way of DOCUMENT-SERVER. This flexibility makes it easy to use DOCUMENT-SERVER to expand on an existing system.

DOCUMENT-SERVER also provides the maximum security for your investment. As before, document files are stored on the server and on optical disks using standard formats and they do not have to be specially converted. This is a pairing of high system openness with top security for document access.
